Get carried away by the wind

When Great Slave Lake freezes over, northerners find all kinds of unique and fun ways to make the most of it, and  kite skiing is definitely one of the most colourful. A little like wind surfing, a little like cross country skiing, kite skiing harnesses the wind to send skiers skimming across the frozen landscape. The usually moderate breezes and easy access to the lake make Great Slave Lake a kite skier's dream. You can take lessons to learn how to launch and manoeuver a full-sized foil kite or take a short lesson to fly a smaller 4-line power kite. Either option will give you an exhilarating ride.
