Cross-Country Skiiing

Ski in the wildest scenery

Skiers can practice on trails made famous by Canada's first Olympic cross-country stars. Sisters Sharon and Shirley Firth spent 16 years in the forefront of cross-country skiing, representing Canada at national and international events. There are active ski clubs in Inuvik, Norman Wells, Yellowknife, Hay River, Fort Smith and other large communities. Many kilometres of trails are groomed each winter. In the warm days of spring, there are friendly races for all ages and visitors are always welcome.
